Jason has extensive experience in the technology industry. He started his career as an electronics technician installing and servicing communications systems, including intercoms and physical computer networks. During the recession he enrolled in college and went on to join his institution’s IT department. While there, not only was Jason recognized for his academic excellence, but he also received the A+ certificate of technical proficiency.
After earning an Associate Degree, he matriculated to the University of Hawaii to pursue his growing interest in computer programming.
While in school, Jason applied the skills and knowledge he honed working with the outstanding IT professionals at the college by helping members of the community with their personal computer problems. As the demand from the community grew, Jason eventually founded his own company and began working exclusively for his own clientele.
Ultimately, the demands of maintaining his high marks at university and the high level of customer satisfaction he achieved as an entrepreneur necessitated a decision between excelling at one or the other. Realizing that most of his course work was available for free or at low-cost online, and that he could return to it later if he desired, he chose to put his efforts into business.
After more than 2 years running Lakona Computers, many satisfied customers, and many lessons learned, Jason came to a reckoning that his business was not growing as fast as his passion for programming. He decided to reenter the job market in search of a position that would foster this interest.
Jason is currently working as an application developer for Bayer Crop Science on Maui. He also does programming work on the side on Upwork and has recently started Maui Computer Programmers Meetup. His technical/professional interest have led to the study of data science, Progressive/off-line Web Applications (PWAs), and to expanding his knowledge of software engineering. Jason is also interested in theology, philosophy, economics, mathematics – statistics, probability, and chaos – and history. He enjoys hiking, stargazing, and other outdoor activities, as well as reading classical literature. Complexity, art, and freedom pique Jason’s interest and his enthusiasm and passion drive him to keep reaching for deeper firstname.lastname@example.org
