Bio
Jason has extensive experience in the technology industry. He started as intern in his college’s IT department, and while there he earned an A+ certification from CompTIA. Based on this experience and education, he went on to found his on tech support company.
Jason’s company (Lakona Computers) gained an excellent reputation for customer service. He serviced both residential and small to medium sized businesses and employed multiple contractors. As a business owner Jason gained greater insight into what it takes to succeed in business: hard work, clear communication, constant improvement, and great service to both internal and external customers. He also kept learning.
In 2014, Jason earned a Network+ certification, and in 2016 a Security+ certification. These certificates qualify him for both CompTIA Systems Support Specialist and Secure Infrastructure Specialist. He also enrolled in the Information and Computer Science degree program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Jason had already began studying computer program and wanted to advance his knowledge in that area.
After more than 2 years running Lakona Computers, many satisfied customers, and many lessons learned; Jason came to a reckoning that his business was not growing as fast as his passion for programming. He decided to reenter the job market in search of a position that would foster this interest. In 2016, he started working as a freelance software developer.
In 2017, Jason started in his current role an application developer for Bayer Crop Science in Kihei, Maui, HI. In this position, he has lead the formation of a software engineering team that designs and builds applications with global impact. Bayer is a major operator in the production of seeds for the world’s food supply, and the applications built by Jason’s team make this work more efficient and effective. His team has been recognized within the company for excellence and they have grown in both size and importance.
In 2020, Jason was recruited by DSA Inc. to work on the U.S. Air Force’s LOGCOP (logistics) program. He thought it would be a great opportunity to support his country and broaden his skill set and add more depth to his experience. While in this role, he has gained greater insight into what it takes to maintain a software system over a long period of time. He has also had the opportunity to work with and learn from some excellent engineers. Jason works full time for DSA, and continues to support his team at Bayer part time.
Although he stays pretty busy with work, Jason is also interested in theology; philosophy; economics; mathematics; and history. He enjoys hiking, stargazing, and other outdoor activities, as well as reading classical literature. Complexity, art, and the question of how to live a good life pique his interest. His enthusiasm and passion drive him to keep reaching for deeper understanding both professionally and personally.
